Do you remember your back-to-school days? As a child, what were you most excited about? Picking out new school supplies? Seeing friends? Finding out which class you’re in? Learning new things?
One of our Vida parents reminisced with us about what it was like for her and her siblings to grow up attending a Vida School.
Señora Lidia shared about studying in Vida Purulhá when it had just opened, about participating in devotionals, about getting to know the Lord. And she shared how school became a refuge for her:
Many times we came from our home with many problems, and here we could feel secure, and we could share our problems with our teachers. And when it was time to leave the school, I would tell the teacher, “I want to stay at the school. I don’t want to go home right now, because I feel peace here.”
My children are now studying in this school. The truth is it’s been a huge blessing to have the children here. I grew up here and learned the paths of the Lord here. So thank you, and also thank you to God who permitted us to study here and get to know Him.
Yes, students in Guatemala are excited to see their friends and teachers and to learn new things. But Vida Schools are so much more than that. Peace in the midst of a storm. A listening ear. A school meal for a hungry tummy. A heartfelt hug. An earnest prayer with a student facing more than any child should bear.
Please continue to pray for children in Guatemala – for their studies, for their spiritual growth, for health, safety and protection, and for their families. Need some ideas? We shared a blog post last year about praying for children in Guatemala that you might find useful.
Please help us to find sponsors for 52 more children in Guatemala – each one needs a compassionate person like you to provide those schools, that loving teacher, that daily meal. See children still waiting for a sponsor.
And let us echo Señora Lidia’s thanks: thank you for providing a place of learning for children in Guatemala – but also for providing a place of refuge.
