In November, 2012, the remote community of Villa Nueva, which is close to Purulhá where Imp
act Ministries operates an elementary school, invited our Field Director’s wife, Rita Peters, to visit. They wanted to give Impact Ministries some property on which to build a school. Rita explained that Impact Ministries was a Christian organization, and that if we built a school in their village, we would teach their children about Jesus Christ. The mayor responded, “That is fine, we all want to learn and have no one to teach us”. This is music to a missionary’s ears.
Since that day, many wonderful events have taken place. First, it was recognized that the land the community initially offered was not that well suited to the development of a school, but the community and Impact Ministries have reached an agreement to acquire a more suitable piece of property.
Second, a Christian School in Canada has asked to become the primary sponsor for the construction, development, and continued operation for this school which will be named Vida Nueva.
Third, construction started last fall and the goal was to begin the school program in January. Pre-registration took place in December and we expected 75 students to start school in Kindergarten to grade 3 in January, 2014.
In January, we celebrated the completion of Phase I of the Vida Nueva School together with the community. Today, most of the 75 children who pre-registered are attending school where they learn to know the love of Jesus Christ, enjoy a nutritious meal at lunch, find comfort in the care of their teachers, and worship God with song and prayer each morning.
Purulhá Centro
Early in 2013, the Mayor of Purulhá invited our Field Director, Les Peters to a meeting. The Community had land in Purulhá that they would be willing to give to Impact Ministries for the purpose of building a school. The property would need some development, but is in a prime location, in the centre of Purulhá serving a portion of the community that doesn’t have access to our existing school. What a gift!
Since this offer was made, Impact Ministries has reached an agreement with the community and all of the legal paper work has been completed. The land officially belongs to Ministerios Impacto and the work of The Lord. We hope to begin construction in 2014.
Several Short term Mission Teams have already walked over this property – envisioning the school. Many have prayed on this property for the lives of the children who will learn to know Jesus Christ in the school that will be built where they are now standing.
